The men of Beta Theta Pi have committed themselves to the betterment of the community through a myriad of services opportunities throughout the year. Even with a majority of our members being in a professional degree program, all of them still find time to give back to the community. Every semester each Beta performs over 20 hours of community service. Many of our members volunteer outside of our organized events. A few of our members tutor children at a local school, work with habitat for humanity, and even volunteer at a camp for children with life-threatening illnesses in Florida.  This year many events were popular with the chapter.  A couple of events included cleaning up a polluted stream and working with a school for children with autism.  Beta’s commitment to philanthropy has had a strong impact on the on the UMKC campus. The current Philanthropy Chair is Saif Ahmed. You can contact him at msax93@umkc.edu

SHERWOOD CENTER

The Sherwood Center for Autism is a place dedicated to helping those stricken by autism. We help this place several times each semester on weekends to make sure the facility is kept at a high standard.

BETA WEEK

Every year, the Epsilon Lambda chapter holds its annual Beta Week. During Beta Week, members of local sororities compete in a football game to raise money for Children’s Mercy Hospital. They also compete in a song, Sign-a-Beta Day and cooking contest held at the University Center. In the spring of 2007, our chapter raised over $2,200.

GREEK WEEK

Each year as a part of the Greek Week competition, Betas volunteer their time to a service needed in the Kansas City area.  This year, we helped clean up the Satchel Paige little league stadium and walking trail between 51st-53rd street and Swope Pkwy.

RELAY FOR LIFE

Relay for Life is another event that our house feels strongly about participating in. Relay for Life is a 12 hour event held at UMKC in which students campout and walk throughout the night around the track. The hours in which you walk each represent a different stage in the life of someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. At this year’s event, the men of Epsilon Lambda raised over $6,000 for cancer research.

HOME RUN FOR HEALTH

At Home Run For Health, all of the medical students in Beta, years 1-6, gave physicals to kids and taught them about baseball afterwards.
